I tried to drown my sorrows, but the bastards learned how to swim, and now I am overwhelmed by this decent and good feeling. Frida Kahlo

1. Pretend that you are talking to a blind man and have to describe for him what "red" is. You should use narrative and descriptive writing techniques, and try to appeal to his other senses!
Red can be the brightest color in the world , it could mean love. Red is the taste of spicy food you eat. It is also seen as deadly sense it is the color of blood. When you think of red, Think of how hot the sun feels when you walk outside ,the heat of the sun is like the heat the color red represents. Imagine yourself being in love with someone, you love them with all you have an know you would do anything for that person. The color of love is red because of the color of our heart. With out our heart with would not be able to stay alive, just like someone with out love couldn't be happy. And how can one live with out happiness or love?
2. How does competition function in our society? To what extent is it healthy/unhealthy? Offer some real world examples taken from your life, community, culture, state, nation, or world.
Competition is everywhere in our society. It is always with us in every way. Weather it is in school, your home, your job, there will always be someone trying to be the best and other wanting to take that place. There is a point where competition becomes unhealthy for us . Some people take competition to a personal level and will get rid of anything that gets in their way from reaching their wanted level. Healthy competition is when you accept that losing will sometimes happen, you re respect your opponent and always put your values first. Nobody likes to lose but no one likes a sore loser either. Accepting to lose a trait that not many of us carry within us , i think that it is something we need to learn to do and accept. I see competition everywhere I am. When I am at home me and my brother compete to who is better at listening to our mom and doing homework first . In school there is always that competition to who is the smartest in the class, who got the higher test score or who is the prettiest or most popular. Competition functions negatively through most people , and it shouldn't be like that. Everyone should accept that not always they will get what they want and fun is the best lesson you should get from competing.
3. How have you taken something that you have learned in the classroom and integrated it into your nonacademic life?
Something that I have learned in the classroom and integrated it into my nonacademic life would be that there is no such thing as a stupid question. Throughout my life I would have doubts that whichever question I would have could be seen as stupid by other so i was afraid to ask. This year i learned that there is no such thing as a stupid question , if there is ever a question you have there will probably always be someone with the same question or doubts as you. It feels good to have a question and just have the confidence to raise my hand and ask any doubts or concerns that i have. I learn more than i think i learn in school , not just a bout math or English but things in our outside world like politics and war and topics that with out school i probably would know nothing about. This week that we are starting to go on break I learned that there should be a balance in life. School breaks are to relax the most we can because once we are in school then that is the time to really focus on our education. I'm usually worried about my grades and things I should study so I forget to give myself the time to just enjoy myself and learn that I shouldn't b e worrying about every little thing that comes in my w ay because otherwise I wont be able to enjoy the things that happened right now.
4. If you could go back in time and be someone in history, who would you choose to be? Why?
If I could go back in time and be someone in history I would like to be Dr. Sally Ride. She was this first American woman in space and she was also the youngest American astronaut ever to orbit Earth. I would feel accomplished to know that as a woman, I achieved something men are typically for. I would have the respect of many people and my family because I would be making history as a woman for America.
5. If you had the responsibility to decide where $1 million should be spent to improve conditions somewhere in the world, what project(s) would you choose? Why?
If I had the responsibility to decide where $1 million dollars should be spent I would pick projects that focus on helping homeless kids get an education and a better life. There is a project in Orange County called Project Hope and it helps local homeless kids to stay in school. oroject hope provides daily food for their kids and transportation. Everything project hope offers is free. Sadly, due to budget cuts there are only about 3 classrooms and 3 teachers with a few aides in Project Hope. There is a documentary based on the lives of these children and the things they go through for being homeless. Everyday they see violence and they live under circumstances not fitted for children. I would donate $1 million dollars to project hope so it could expand their locations and have more classrooms and teachers so kids in need could get a better education.
6. How have you tried to effect change in relation to an issue of personal, local, or national significance?
I have tried to make a change to our world through pollution. I have realized the damage it has caused to our environment and its inhabitants. I don't think it is too late to help fix our planet if everyone came together and started doing something little. I have stared recycling, before I wouldn't think it was too important because I thought that I was just one person and it wouldn't make a real difference. But after seeing all the damage done I was determined to start doing little things like recycling. I have to admit that I used to pollute a lot and not really care about throwing trash in a trash can so I would just throw it around in the streets. Then one day I saw a commercial about a family randomly destroying their house and the message of the commercial was if we would never destroy our homes hen why are we destroying our planet if our planet is our home. After that commercial I stopped polluting and encouraged my friends to properly throw trash away because even if we think we are just on person, if we all come together we can all create a big impact on our planet.
7. If you could introduce one new idea or material thing to a primitive culture, what would it be?
I would introduce the laptop to a primitive program because with a laptop you can easily carry it around. Laptops are good for work, school, and entertainment. Many students from other cultures struggle with school and may not even be able to finish school because they don't have the right help on their homework or they can't study for important test and a laptop offers them all that and more. I believe education is the most important thing our society can have so If I were to be able to introduce a new idea to a primitive culture it would be something to help education like a laptop does.
